The steel fraction is an abrasive material used in industrial plants in the surface treatment. Depending on the shape of the fraction, it is classified into chopped, crushed and cast. The chemical composition of the steel fraction is characterized by high carbon content.

The following technological operations require steel fraction:
− preparation of surfaces of parts for enamel and galvanic coatings;
− cleaning of various surfaces: small castings and steel rolled products, cutting tools, details of machine-building enterprises after heat treatment, molds for casting and removal of scale.

Iron fraction is also widely used for various technological purposes:
− in construction for sawing marble and other minerals;
− fractional drilling;
− for shot blasting of various products: for example, for cleaning cast-iron castings and slicing metal springs to increase their fatigue strength.
